She's Growing Up...

Here is a picture of Leyden and Blue on the first day of fifth grade. Ohmigosh, it sounds so WEIRD to say fifth grade! My child is supposed to be five or six, not ten! (As you can tell, fifth grade seems to be a bit harder for me to accept.) Anyway, Leyden got up at 5:00 a.m. on the first day of school - yes, I said 5:00 a.m. - and took a shower and got dressed. She fed made her lunch and packed her snack and fed the dog. She was in my room at 5:30 to wake me up saying, "We HAVE to go! Or we'll be late!" I managed to sleep until a little after 6. We had a gracious plenty of time to get to school and chat with her friends before class started. Her teacher is very nice, and I think this is going to be a great year. The whole fifth grade (23 kids) started in one class together. They hired another teacher, and the class will split this week. They will swap teachers half way through the day, something they have never done before. The new teacher came in at the end of last week and met everyone, and they all seem to like her. They're excited. So, fifth grade is going well. Me, I guess I'll be okay. I don't want to know how I'm going to act when she's a senior. They may have to commit me. I've got empty nest syndrome already!
