Where Does the Elevator Go?

Mom found this poem while she was going through some things at her house. I have always had a tendency to bring life to inanimate objects and give them a personality, and this poem is the perfect example. I don't write much poetry anymore, and after reading this, I realize that perhaps most people are grateful. Except for Shel Silverstein, who would probably like this poem a little.

Where does the elevator go at night?
Does it sleep in a bed, wrapped up tight?
Does it get to rest after a busy day?
Does it every get to go outside to play?

And where does the elevator go at lunch?
Does it eat in the shaft, a quick little munch?
Does it get to relax for an hour or so?
Does it eat at all, or just go and go?

And where does the elevator go between runs?
Does it stop in the middle just to have fun?
Does it make us wait on purpose sometimes?
Does it ever wish it could see the sun shine?

Celebration Week!

Tomorrow begins Celebration Week at our house. My birthday is tomorrow, and next Tuesday is Leyden's 12th birthday. We like to drag out the celebrations in between so we can have a whole week of parties!

This year we'll have a great Celebration Week. Tomorrow night, Brad, Leyden and I are going to dinner with my parents at my favorite Mexican restaurant. Friday morning, Leyden and I are leaving for a weekend in Savannah, Georgia. (I am attending the NALS Region 4 Conference, and Leyden will just be along for the ride.) We are counting on having some fun in Savannah, since neither of us have been there before. Next Tuesday, the three of us will meet all the grandparents, and some of Leyden's aunts and uncles, for dinner at Leyden's favorite restaurant, a Chinese buffet with hibachi grill. Since Leyden isn't having a birthday party this year, we decided to meet one night for dinner and cake so everyone can celebrate this milestone birthday with Leyden.

Birthdays are such joyful occasions... celebrating the gift of life that God has given us, and counting the blessings that He has showered us with along the way! I am thankful this year for good health, a roof over our heads, good jobs for both me and Brad, a good husband, and a sweet daughter. God is good!

I'll try to post pictures of our fun soon. Celebration Week, here we come!!!
