We were able to go to Cheaha this year with the Guy family for Labor Day weekend. Mom and Dad went Friday morning. Leyden was sick with the flu last week (not sure if it was H1N1), so she and I didn't leave until Saturday, after she had been fever free for more than 24 hours. Scott got there Sunday morning with Angel, the dog. I left Sunday evening, and Leyden came home with Mom, Dad and Scott on Monday. Below are some pictures I took on the trip. Cheaha is always fun, even in the rain, which is what it did most of the time we were there. It is beautiful up there, and I can't help but thank God for creating this wonderful spot right here in Alabama!
This is the "loop" that goes around the park.
We were at Cheaha all of 10 minutes when we put on our hiking shoes and loaded up in the back of the truck to head to the Bald Rock trail. This is Leyden and Jackson.
Bald Rock is an accessible trail, and it's awesome! It allows those in wheelchairs or families with babies in strollers to experience "hiking" down a beautiful boardwalk "trail" that runs alongside a flat, rocky trail. The view at the end of the trail is breathtaking, and it is really wonderful that folks that normally wouldn't get to see something like that are able to experience it. At the Bald Rock trail head... Mom, Leyden, Jackson, Taylor, Karmen & me at the trail head.
The kids walking the boardwalk to Bald Rock.
Mom, Dad & I went to see Grand Brown on Saturday afternoon. She has been in the hospital for a blood clot in her leg, and she is getting stronger every day. She has dementia, and doesn't know who I am, but she gave me huge treat Saturday... I hugged her when I got there, and she gave me a kiss on my cheek!
Karmen and Leyden swimming in the lake.
Dad, Scott, Mom and Angel found a shady spot to enjoy the breeze and watch the kids play.
Jean (Mom's best friend), Libby (Jean's daughter), and J.J. (Libby's husband) hanging out at the lake.
Jackson (Libby & J.J.'s son) found a friend to play with.
On the way home Sunday evening, as I drove the loop out of the park, I didn't want to leave. So I took a picture to use as the wallpaper on my computer at work so I can go back to Cheaha every day!
